Edmond Cotteau
It was approximately 150 years ago that this French traveler, known for his book "Un touriste dans l'Extrême Orient," which documented the culture, traditions, and beauty of the four seasons in Asia, including Japan, visited Japan.
Shortly before Cotteau's visit to Japan, Japan made its first official appearance at the Paris Exposition, exhibiting ukiyo-e and crafts. This significantly influenced European artists like Van Gogh and Monet, leading to the rise of Japonism as a cultural and artistic trend around the same time.
It was also around this time that tough and functional workwear items, such as overalls and painter pants, which Wangee excels at, were born in America.
Reflecting on the background of craftsmanship that has been created, evolved, and passed down over 150 years of history.
A design that cross-references Japan's "now" as seen through Wangee's eyes.
This collection features classical workwear with carefully embroidered motifs, jacket overlaps, and main fabrics that subtly evoke tradition, while incorporating a European mood as a key design element.
